Amsterdam is a highly popular city on the market for international conferences. In 2016, the city was placed 7th in the world ranking of conference cities. Perhaps unsurprisingly: Amsterdam has, in addition to the many great hotels, tourist attractions and restaurants, hundreds of special venues – each with its own charm and unique possibilities. We selected five characteristic Amsterdam conference venues you don’t want to miss out on!
A great industrial setting, right along the IJ in Amsterdam Noord: The Kromhouthal is a highly popular Amsterdam conference venue with a raw, industrial touch. With ample parking right in front of the door and a ferry that charters from Central Station to the location, this is perhaps also the best accessible venue. The Kromhouthal, with its many cranes, a fifteen-meter-high ceiling and sturdy steel constructions, has a highly flexible setup. The location features a total of 5,000 square meters of space, with ample opportunity to create break-out spaces.
Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is a striking location in the heart of Amsterdam, directly along the IJ. Under the undulating roof of the terminal, where you can watch massive cruise ships dock, there’s a sea of possibilities for events. The transparent and open character of this venue not only provides it with a beautiful backdrop, but also make it highly customizable. Expand the venue with ijVENUES, the collaboration with neighbours from the Bimhuis, the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ and Movenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre to a conference venue of 5000 square meters, with 25 break-out spaces and a plenary space for up 1200 people.
Located in the trendy East Amsterdam is the iconic building from the Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen (Royal Tropical Institute). This special building is a beautiful place, full of history and with modern functionalities. The beautiful auditorium the Queen Maxima Hall, with space for 450 people, the imposing Marble Hall with its twelve types of marble from Tuscany for receptions, various rooms for break-outs and the beautiful courtyard garden adjacent to the Oosterpark, the Royal Tropical Institute is a very versatile conference venue.
If you really want to make a lasting impression on the visitors of your conference, the Scheepvaartmuseum (Maritime Museum) is the place to be. This venue was built in the Golden Age as a warehouse of the Admiralty of Amsterdam. Behind the striking façade we find one of the most spectacular locations for events: the beautiful covered courtyard ‘Het Open Pleyn‘. Around the courtyard are three beautiful, inspiring rooms, named after Dutch sea heroes Tromp, De Ruyter and Van Heemskerck.
The Koninklijk Concertgebouw (Royal Concert Hall) at the Museum Square is world-renowned for its acoustics and high-level musical programming. In addition, it’s also a stylish, surprising venue for business events and conferences. Receive your guests in the modern Pleinfoyer (Foyer Square) or around the rooms; hold the plenary meeting in the overwhelmingly beautiful Grote Zaal (Great Hall), with 1974 chairs the largest flat hall in Amsterdam; and spread the conference across the other beautiful and large spaces. With the inhouse recording studio, your entire conference – including the beautiful décor – can be recorded from start to finish.
