When you think of Amsterdam, the canal belt immediately comes to mind. The old city centre is famous for its wide canals and long rows of green trees, thousands of historical canal houses – from stately and imposing to crooked – and an equal number of unique facades. With hundreds of good restaurants, cosy cafes, luxury hotels, special stores and boutiques, the canal belt is highly popular among tourists and locals alike. And, of course, it’s a picturesque décor for leisure and corporate events. We visited five unique Amsterdam meeting venues along the canals!
HUIS BARTOLOTTI
Having a meeting in Huis Bartolotti (Bartolotti House) is also a visit to one of the best kept canal houses of Amsterdam. The large, exuberantly decorated house at the Herengracht was built around 1620 for the wealthy Willem Bartolotti van den Heuvel. The rooms in this building were recently completely renovated and each have their own atmosphere, with the most beautiful murals and ceiling paintings. Recently, the rooms in Huis Bartolotti have been opened to business meetings, which make it a highly unique meeting venue for a wide range of events. A presentation alongside the canal, or a dinner party in the stylish courtyard? In Huis Bartolotti, both can be done!
GRAND HOTEL AMRÂTH AMSTERDAM
Within a stone’s throw from Amsterdam Central Station we find what is perhaps the most impressive building from the Amsterdam School era: Grand Hotel Amrath Amsterdam. This special five-star hotel is situated in the monumental ‘Scheepvaarthuis’, dating from the beginning of the previous century. It oozes history and is full of references to the rich shipping tradition of the Netherlands. In addition to the 205 rooms and 22 luxurious suites, the hotel boasts 8 rooms for meetings and events. HET VAUDEVILLE THEATER – THE PLAYING CIRCLE
At the colourful flower market, right in the middle of Amsterdam, lies the beautiful Vaudeville Theater. The theater, dating from 1850, was converted to a spectacular meeting venue with a contemporary and beautiful design by interior designers The Loft. The meeting space is on the fourth floor and has an 8-meter-high ceiling. The massive windows allow for a lot of daylight to come in and provide a magnificent view of the city centre. The Vaudeville Theater feels large and spacious, but thanks to the elegant design still has a warm and homely feeling to it. There are several seats and right in the middle of the open space stands an imposing long table, perfect for meetings with up to 23 people.
GRACHTENKAMER
Grachtenkamer (Canal Room) is an intimate Amsterdam meeting venue in the heart of the canal belt. The ground floor of an 18th century building is attractively decorated with designer furniture to receive groups of up to ten people. The homely setting ensures that your guests are quickly at ease. From the meeting table on the entresol you have a nice view of the canal and you can see the shoppers of the Negen Straatjes pass by. Enjoy a great lunch or dinner at Grachtenkamer and toast outside on the couch at a successful meeting!
MOUSTAQBEL
This typical Amsterdam meeting venue with a beautiful name has a special story. ‘Moustaqbel’ means ‘future’ in Moroccan-Arabic and is named after a foundation of the same name in Marrakech. This foundation offers disadvantaged girls from isolated mountain villages an opportunity to live under guidance and to follow higher education. The proceeds of all business meetings that take place in this location, beautifully situated on the Bloemgracht, contribute to this.
