Those who step over the seventeenth-century threshold of the Zuiderkerk (‘Southern Church’) instantly experience the welcoming reception of this monumental location with contemporary comfort. The beautiful building, which was built in the Dutch Renaissance-style, was drastically renovated with respect for its monumental character and is now fitted with modern facilities. Because of her beautiful side aisles, historic vaults, and authentic columns; the Zuiderkerk offers a stylish and contemporary ambiance for a wide range of events.

The Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam was built in the beginning of the 17th century by Hendrick de Keyser – who, incidentally, lies buried in the church – and was the first Protestant church of Amsterdam. As a result of the secularization, the ecclesiastical activities of this church were discontinued in 1929. During the Dutch famine of 1944 the church served as a mortuary. After a long period of vacancy and partial storage, the church served as an information center of the municipality of Amsterdam from 1988 until 2010. In 2011, the church was the temporary home of the National Historical Museum. But since 2012, the Zuiderkerk is officially being operated by the current tenant as an event venue and the church – because of its versatility – hosts a wide range of events, from festive dinners to inspiring congresses and exchange fairs, from concerts to romantic weddings and special memorials. Additionally, the original function of the monumental building has been restored; it now hosts church services again as well.

Multiple Rooms with Modern Facilities

The Zuiderkerk has a multitude of rooms available for private or business events. The Middenschip (‘The Central Nave’) is fitted with a large projection screen and has room for 300 persons in a theater setting and 600 persons in a reception setting. In addition to this plenary room, the Zuiderkerk has multiple rooms which can be employed individually or collectively. For example, the Lezingenzaal (‘The Readings Room’) is suitable for smaller meeting for 30 to 60 persons. The intimate Consistorie (‘Consistory’) is great for very small meetings for up to 8 persons. For some drinks with coworkers, the red barroom is ideal with a capacity of up to 100 persons. The gallery on the second floor can host events for up to 400 persons. Additionally, this location is fitted with an elevator, a disabled toilet, and fast WiFi.

Excellent Accessibility

On top of its stylish rooms and modern facilities, the venue is situated in the city center of Amsterdam and yet perfectly accessible by car or public transport. The location has ample parking opportunity in the vicinity and there’s a metro station just 25 meters away. Excursion boats dock at quays within walking distance, which allows for combinations with canal trips or reception by boat. In addition, the Zuiderkerk has production partners who can help make your event a success.
